COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A firefighter will graduate from college after originally beginning his studies 40 years ago.

ABC13 reported that fire veteran Bobby Deiss, who also served in Iraq, began studying at Texas A&M in 1976, but was forced to leave due to failing grades and was asked to earn community college credits before returning.

Later, he accepted an offer to return and join the Corps of Cadets, but had to leave again after failing to earn the required 15 credits.

Deiss became a Houston firefighter after leaving the second time, and it wasn’t until 2015, after his last tour in Iraq, that he decided to return to Texas A&M for a third time.

Deiss is set to receive his bachelor’s degree on Friday.
