WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — New Hamburg firefighters were able to save the day when a Beacon family’s baby came a little earlier than expected.

The family was on its way to Vassar Brother’s Hospital Sunday morning to deliver the child when the baby boy just couldn’t wait. Firefighters were conducting training at the Channingville Road firehouse when they saw the Ford Explorer pull up and a nervous dad got out asking firefighters for help.

Doing what they do best, firefighters who double as emergency medical technicians and first responders went to work to deliver the baby in the parking lot. “We’re very fortunate to have a very active group of guys that are always around the firehouse helping out,” Chief Joe Moore said.
