RICHFIELD, Minn. — Firefighters in the southwest metro now have access to a laser-equipped fire simulator as they train to put out blazes.

The Richfield Fire Department acquired the $27,000 system thanks to a grant from Firehouse Subs, it was announced this month. According to Fire Chief Wayne Kewitsch, the department is the first in the state to acquire the simulator, called the Bullex Attack Digital Fire Training System.

The equipment will be made available to fire departments in the southwest metro as part of joint operations training, Kewitsch said during a May 12 Richfield City Council Meeting, where the system was demonstrated.
