August 5, 2013 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) launched Sparky the Fire Dog® mobile site, accessible on smart phones and tablets.
The mobile version of the popular Sparky the Fire Dog website gives parents and educators another way to teach children about fire safety. Users can now seamlessly transition from interacting with sparky.org on desktop computers to Sparky Mobile on smart phones and tablets.
“Sparky the Fire Dog continues to be a valuable resource to teach fire safety to children and families in a fun way. The new mobile site makes Sparky’s lessons more accessible to a larger audience,” says Amy LeBeau, NFPA’s senior project manager for public education. “In this ever-growing age of digital learning, it is important to provide families an age-appropriate and ad-free site where parents can feel comfortable letting kids explore and learn about fire safety. NFPA’s goal is to give children the tools needed to stay safe from fire long after the screen is turned off.”
Sparky mobile features kid-friendly short stories, comics, and an interactive section about fire trucks. Users get an inside look at the different kinds of trucks and can explore parts of them with sound and animation.
The App World section on Sparky mobile will soon feature a free deluxe interactive storybook app for ages 3-7, and a free e-book for ages 7-10.The site also offers family activities and a dedicated section with resources for parents, classroom teachers and fire departments.
Access the mobile site through your smart phone or tablet or by going to www.sparky.org/mobile.
