7 firefighters hurt battling 4-alarm NYC blaze

First-arriving Brooklyn companies faced fire on two floors extending into an exposure

NEW YORK — Seven firefighters were injured during a four-alarm fire that affected several buildings in Brooklyn.

According to FDNY officials, the fire began shortly after 1:00 p.m. on April 24 at 2050 71st Street, between 20th and 21st Avenues. The fire started on the first floor before spreading to the second floor, and escalated to a four-alarm fire shortly before 3:00 p.m., News12 Brooklyn reported.

Several occupants were able to escape before firefighters arrived.

Six firefighters were transported to area hospitals and treated for minor injuries. One firefighter was treated at the scene, PIX11 reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
