Hackenburg signed up for the Revolution3 Triathlon this September in Sandusky, demanding athletes first swim 2.4 miles and bike 112 miles throughout Erie County.
But during the race’s last leg — a 26.2 mile run — he’s abandoning the traditional running outfit of a T-shirt, shorts and cap.
Instead, Hackenburg plans to suit up in full fire turnout gear, which weighs about 60 pounds. Wearing the helmet, a coat and an air pack, Hackenburg aims to create buzz for a charitable effort.
