Firefighter hurt in ice bucket challenge mishap released from hospital

Firefighter Alex Quinn left the burn unit last week and went home Tuesday, but Capt. Grider is still in critical condition

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A firefighter who was injured assisting with an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge event last month has been released from the hospital.

WDRB reported that firefighter Alex Quinn and Captain Tony Grider were in the bucket of a fire truck that had been spraying Campbellsville (Ky.) University students who were taking part in the challenge.

At some point during the event, Quinn and Grider suffered burns from an apparent electrical arc from a power line. Both were taken to the hospital and later flown to a medical center’s burn unit.

Quinn left the burn unit last week and went home Tuesday afternoon, but Capt. Grider is still in critical condition, according to the report.

Two other firefighters hurt that day have already returned to work.
