Firefighter-turned-officiant offers free ‘I do’s’ on Valentine’s Day

Bill Fenton said he became a wedding officiant to help couples on a tight budget

HOWELL, Mich. — When firefighter Bill Fenton isn’t extinguishing fires, he’s helping couples ignite their flames of love.

Fenton, with the Howell Area Fire Authority, became a wedding officiant three years ago to help couples on a tight budget. Although he normally charges $50 per wedding, he is offering his services free of charge on Valentine’s Day.

“That’s why I’m a firefighter, I love helping people, just to see that smile on their face,” Fenton told WRIC.
