MIDDLEBORO, Mass. — Fifteen-year firefighting veteran David Brier, 50, suffered a heart attack at his home following a shift; he later died at the hospital.

Middleboro Fire Chief Lance Benjamino told The Enterprise News that Firefighter Brier will be sorely missed.

“It’s a huge loss for the entire department … it’s devastating,” Chief Benjamino told the paper. “He was a hard worker; he always did whatever needed to be done, with no questions asked.”

Firefighter Brier complained of not feeling well during his July 12, shift, rested and then finished his shift. He suffered a heart attack at home and was rushed to a Boston hospital, the paper reported. He was on life-support for nearly 10 days, but never regained consciousness.

Grief counselors were available to Middleboro firefighters.
