HOPKINTON, N.H. — The Concord Monitor is reporting that Hopkinton Fire Chief Rick Schaefer died Sunday while on duty of an undisclosed medical emergency.
The paper reports that it was notified by Epping (N.H.) Fire Chief Donald DeAngelis that Schaefer’s death was announced over an emergency radio dispatch. The paper said Hopkinton fire officials would not confirm the report until they have met with Schaefer’s family.
Schaefer began as a volunteer firefighter and had been chief for at least 10 years, the paper reported. He was in his early 50s.
