CEDAR GROVE, W.Va. — A volunteer firefighter died Sunday night after a long battle with heart disease.
WOWKtv.com reported that David “Biggen” Edens, with the Cedar Grove (W.Va.) Volunteer Fire Department, was hospitalized and died on April 5.
“I was real heartbroken over it,” said firefighter Larry Coleman. “Me and Dave go a long ways back.”
Colleagues said firefighter Edens’ laugh was infectious and he was always at the station helping out any way he could.
“He’d be real quiet and then you all would be sitting back here and somebody would say something funny and then he would start laughing and he’d get everybody else laughing,” said firefighter Charles Cruikshank.
A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Haffer Funeral Home in Elkview, W.Va.
He was with the department for more than seven years.
