OAK BLUFFS, Mass. — A Massachusetts firefighter was seriously injured after falling from a ladder truck on Saturday.

Oak Bluffs Public Safety Director Erik Blake said Firefighter Kevin Brennan was airlifted to the hospital after losing his footing and falling, hitting a metal stanchion before landing on the pavement, according to the Martha’s Vineyard Times.

Brennan had been helping prepare for a funeral procession for retired Oak Bluffs Firefighter Allan deBettencourt Sr. at the time of the fall, where the Oak Bluffs and Edgartown ladder trucks were set up to form a flag arch.

Brennan was at the base of the ladder near the controls when he fell, according to the Vineyard Gazette. EMS personnel already at the scene for the funeral immediately rendered aid.

Blake said Brenna sustained serious injuries but is now improving and recovering at a hospital in Boston.
