CLEVELAND — Prosecutors on Tuesday dropped assault charges against a veteran firefighter.

Cleveland city prosecutors dropped the misdemeanor case against Lt. Rodney Harris. Court records do not say why.

Harris, 51, was accused of attacking a 28-year-old man inside an Ohio City boxing gym. Harris has been a firefighter since 2001.

The incident happened August 28 at the Old Angle Boxing Gym.

Witnesses told police that the fight broke out after the 28-year-old man hit Harris’ then-14-year-old son with multiple below-the-belt punches, police reports say.

Harris was accused of jumping in the ring and attacking the 28-year-old man.
