HANFORD, Calif. — A College of the Sequoias fire cadet died after experiencing a medical emergency on the school’s Hanford campus, KFSN reported.
The medical emergency occurred on Aug. 10, according to the college. Fellow cadets immediately assisted the student before on-site paramedic staff began providing medical care.
The cadet was transported to a nearby hospital and died the following day.
“We are devastated by this loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to the cadet’s family, friends and loved ones,” the college said in a statement provided to KFSN.
The cause of the medical emergency remains under investigation.
Fire academy applicants at College of the Sequoias must pass a physical agility exam before being admitted to the program. The exam evaluates strength, balance, coordination and cardiovascular endurance.
The college said it is providing support services to those affected as the campus community mourns the cadet’s death.
