BOYS TOWN, Neb. — A 67-year-old fire chief died after suffering a heart attack upon returning from an EMS call Monday.

Boys Town Fire & Rescue Chief John Sing collapsed at the station after returning from the 2 a.m. call, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. He was immediately taken to a hospital where he passed away.

Sing joined the Boys Town Fire Brigade in 1971 and led the effort to upgrade it to a municipal fire department, according to KETV NewsWatch 7.

During his career, Sing also served as the director of the Boys Town Fire and Safety Department and launched a Fire Cadet program.
