SHAMOKIN, Pa. — A fire captain died Thursday after suffering a medical emergency at the scene of a fire.

PennLive reported that Coal Township Fire Department Captain Scott Dannheimer, 53, was responding to a house fire when he was found unresponsive, according to Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley.

“Scott W. Dannheimer, 53, of Shamokin, was pronounced dead this afternoon in the emergency room at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital,” Kelley said in a statement. “He had earlier responded with East End Fire Company to a house fire on North First Street in Coal Township. He was found unresponsive in the cab of the fire truck and transported to the hospital.”

Kelley added that “an autopsy is scheduled” for today, and that no other details would be released at this time.
