MARTIN COUNTY, Texas — A volunteer firefighter was killed and another injured in an accident on Wednesday while responding to a call.

A Facebook post by the Howard County Sheriff’s Office stated that Stanton Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter Danny Ireton was killed in a “tragic accident,” and Volunteer Firefighter Allan Carby was injured, News West 9 reported.

“This morning 2 volunteers with the Martin County Volunteer Fire Department were involved in a tragic accident that claimed the life of Volunteer Danny Ireton. Another volunteer, Allan Carby, was injured,” the post read. “Please join us in keeping them as well as their families in your thoughts prayers.”

In a post on social media, SVFD said Carby was currently hospitalized.

“It has been a tragic and trying day for the Stanton VFD family. While responding to an accident, two of our brothers were involved in a terrible accident,” the post read. “We lost one of our brothers and another is in the hospital facing surgeries and a long recovery. Please pray for us and the family of the lost and for recovery of the injured.

Our hearts are broken and we covet your prayers.”
