BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Three firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at an east Birmingham lounge.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched at 11:24 p.m. Sunday to a report of a fire at Airport Lounge at 1409 50th Street North.

Firefighters arrived to find the business engulfed in flames.
While crews were fighting the fire, a “Mayday” was issued. In the fire service, that is when an emergency distress call is transmitted by a firefighter over the radio to signal that their life is in immediate danger.
Fire Chief Cory Moon was among the large number of personnel who responded to the scene.
BFRS Lt. Catina Williams said three firefighters were transported to the hospital, two of them with burn injuries.
All three were alert and conscious, she said. Their injuries are non-critical.
As of 1:45 a.m. Monday, the scene was still active. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Airport Lounge is still an operating business, but no one was there when the fire erupted.
