SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — This week’s Photo of the Week shows the Seminole County Fire Department hosting a career day for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida – the Sanford and Altamonte branches. More than 60 children visited the Seminole County Fire Department’s Regional Training Center. They tried training exercises and drills, and interacted with firefighters.

“We have found that it is most beneficial to reach kids earlier in school before they reach high school,” said Lieutenant Chris Baker, who heads SCFD’s Diversity and Outreach initiatives. “When we talk to many kids, they say it had never crossed their minds that being a firefighter was even a viable career option. So we just want to show them that they have lots of options and lots of positive role models out there who can help them be whatever they want to be in life.”
