NEW YORK — After being diagnosed with World Trade Center-related cancer in 2018 and following an international search, (ret.) FDNY Firefighter Sal Parisi had the chance to meet his bone marrow donor, Stephen Dawkins, a professor based in England.
“This program is so extraordinary because a simple swab, a quick test and registration can unite a professor from England with a Firefighter from Engine 14 in Manhattan. By bringing them together, it saves the life of a FDNY member who bravely served our city for nearly three decades,” said Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh.
