KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City firefighters responded to a building fire near 26th Street and Prospect Avenue just before 7 p.m. on May 1.
Companies from Battalions 102, 104, 105 and 106 on B-shift found heavy fire and smoke coming from a two-story vacant commercial building.
Crews initially began an interior attack but withdrew because of rapidly changing conditions inside the structure. Firefighters then shifted to defensive operations to bring the fire under control.
