BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Brevard County firefighter who wore blackface at a Halloween party has been fired, ClickOrlando reported Thursday.

Jake Johnson was stationed at Brevard Fire Rescue Station 63 in Indialantic.

ClickOrlando reported that there is no official word as to whether the image of Johnson that went viral on social media and his job loss are connected. He had been assigned to light duty in November.

The image, featuring two men and a woman, was taken at a party on Oct. 30 and had the caption, “Yes, Denzel Washington and O.J. Simpson showed up to our party.”

The woman in the photo, who posted it, said she did not know the term “blackface” until someone explained it to her after she shared the photo. Then she deleted it.
