MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — After being hospitalized for more than two months, Middletown volunteer firefighter Shawn Menear got a hero’s welcome as he left the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia to head home, the Patriot-News reported.
Roughly 100 fire trucks were in the procession, and many of his fellow firefighters showed up and clapped for him.
“It feels great. I’m so ready for this,” said Menear. “I’ve got a long road yet ahead of me, but I know I have so many people behind me. We’ll make it. We’ll be good.”

Menear sustained third-degree burns and other injuries in January. He became trapped under debris while trying to rescue a 67-year-old man who died.
