DC responders rescue man from burning car

Two police officers used an ax to break through the sunroof of the vehicle to save a man they said was burning alive in front of them

WASHINGTON — Two DC Police officers pulled a man out of a burning car moments before the car became engulfed in flames.

Police say the accident happened at about 1:45 AM Sunday, on Alabama Avenue and 23rd Street SE.

Witnesses told police that the car was seen traveling at a high rate of speed before the driver apparently lost control and crashed into two other vehicles.

Police could not provide information as to the condition of the driver or whether any charges had been filed.
