EL PASO, Texas — Two undocumented immigrants were rescued from the American Canal between Paisano and Fonseca drives Wednesday morning, federal officials said.

Remote video surveillance systems recorded footage of the two going into the canal near a storm drain with four other people about 5 a.m., said Border Patrol spokesman Ramiro Cordero.

Border Patrol agents apprehended two of the six north of the canal and, with the help of the El Paso Fire Department, rescued two more from the water, Cordero said.

The group — three men and one woman — were taken to University Medical Center.
