Marianne Meyers, BS, is a third-year medical student at the University of Washington School of Medicine interested in pursuing emergency medicine. Previously, she was a member of the Santa Clara University collegiate EMS squad where she received her B.S. in Public Health Science. Additionally, she has worked with the King County Public Health Department in Seattle, Washington studying EMT naloxone administration.

She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and more than 30 years of experience as a writer and editor.

Aliese Alter is a senior program manager for the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (W/B HIDTA), overseeing both the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP) and Case Explorer. In her role, she is responsible for the overall management of ODMAP and Case Explorer, including outreach, program development, implementation and national partnerships. Aliese is responsible for interfacing with thousands of partners representing government, law enforcement, and public health nationally to support data-driven efforts to reduce overdoses, as well as facilitate information sharing.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Marketing and Related Support Services from Longwood University; and is currently enrolled in a Master of Science program in EMS Systems Management from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Prior to joining the W/B HIDTA, Aliese served as a detective in Richmond, Va. During her career, she held a variety of assignments to include: patrol, recruitment and special victims unit.

Jon Dorman is Director of Content – Fire for Lexipol. He has more than 25 years in the fire service in both combination and career departments, retiring as the assistant chief of operations and deputy emergency manager. Dorman also has more than a decade of experience teaching in the Fire Science and Emergency Management program at Purdue University Global (formerly Kaplan University). He has a bachelor’s degree in fire protection science from SUNY Empire State College, a master’s degree in employment law from Nova Southeastern University, and a master’s degree in homeland security and emergency management from Kaplan University. Robert VanNieuwenhuyze is a content developer for Lexipol. He served 26 years with the Smithfield Police Department in Rhode Island, retiring as deputy police chief. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Studies and a master’s degree in Administration of Justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session #236.

Connie McNamara is a founding partner of Preparedness Global and has more than 30 years of experience in strategic communication and crisis response. McNamara has served as a senior leader in a variety of organizations and has handled communications around complex situations involving natural disasters, finance and civil and criminal investigations. A former journalist, she has presented on communications at national and international conferences.

Josh Rahn is a copy editor for Lexipol’s Policy and Learning Team. He has an MLS from the University of Kentucky and has been writing professionally on a variety of topics for more than 10 years.

Curt Varone has over 40 years of fire service experience and 30 as a practicing attorney licensed in both Rhode Island and Maine. His background includes 29 years as a career firefighter in Providence (retiring as a deputy assistant chief), as well as volunteer and paid on-call experience. He is the author of two books: “Legal Considerations for Fire and Emergency Services” (2006; 2nd ed. 2011; 3rd ed. 2014; 4th ed. 2022) and “Fire Officer’s Legal Handbook” (2007). Varone is a consultant for Lexipol.

Pedro Cáceres began his career with the Wayne Township Fire Department over 25 years ago. After obtaining an architecture degree from Ball State University and working as an architect for a few years, he transitioned into a full-time career in the fire service. He has been promoted over the years to various ranks from private up to division chief. Cáceres has served as shift commander, division chief of Support Services and as division chief of Training and Safety. He is a member of the Urban Search and Rescue Indiana Task Force One (INTF-1) team as well as a member of the Indiana Smoke Diver Association. Cáceres is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy. He also earned a master’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University.
