ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A two-car crash involving an SUV and a municipal vehicle Tuesday night injured three Upper Macungie Township firefighters returning from a training exercise, police said.

The accident happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Industrial Boulevard and Morris Court. Township police said a 32-year-old Dillsburg, York County man was headed north, entering Industrial Boulevard about 19 feet south of Morris Court, when he failed to stop at a stop sign.

That driver’s 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander then struck a 2013 Ford Explorer, heading west, being driven by a member of the Goodwill Fire Co. Station No. 25, police said. The Ford was a township vehicle also carrying two 18-year-old male passengers who also are Goodwill firefighters.

The impact caused the Ford to travel down an embankment. The Ford driver, a 25-year-old Allentown man, had to be freed from the SUV, police said.

The Ford driver and his teen passengers from Upper Macungie all were taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township, according to police. All three were treated for injuries and released, Upper Macungie Police Lt. Peter Nickischer said Wednesday afternoon.

The Mitsubishi driver was uninjured, police said. All four motorists involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, according to police.

The Mitsubishi driver was cited with traffic offenses, including duties at a stop sign.
