LEXINGTON, N.C. — A firefighter was killed after he was struck by another car Sunday afternoon.
News-Record.com reported that Matthew Bailey, 24, with the South Lexington Volunteer Fire Department, was driving his car about 3:30 p.m. when Nicholas Antonucci, 30, lost control of his truck and crossed the center line, hitting Bailey’s car.
The speed limit along the road was 55 mph and the vehicles were going about 45 mph at the time of the crash, according to the report.
Although Bailey was wearing his seatbelt, he died at the scene of the wreck. Antonucci was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, exceeding a safe speed for the conditions, unsafe tires and crossing the center line, according to the report.
