MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — A Texas volunteer fire department is out $3,000 in equipment after a break-in.

Axtell Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Scott Garner told KXXV that the burglars broke into the firehouse late Saturday and stole an array of equipment including a bunker coat, helmet, airway bag, trauma bag, and an AED.

“It disappoints us all that someone would stoop to the level of stealing from a volunteer fire department,” he said.

Without that equipment, he said, it will take crews longer to arrive on scene, putting patients in potential danger.

It is estimated it will take a month to replace all the stolen equipment.

Authorities are investigating the matter.
