SCHELL CITY, Mo. — A Vernon County man has been charged with arson in a Saturday fire that destroyed two buildings.
Authorities said it also may have contributed to the death of a firefighter.
Schell City Assistant Fire Chief Dale E. Haddix, a volunteer, died during the blaze, although he was not directly battling flames at the time. “It is my understanding that he collapsed while operating the pump truck,” said Barton County Prosecuting Attorney Steven H. Kaderly.
