Helping volunteers to come together.

To all the members of VolunteerFD.org

Over the past 2 months, VolunteerFD.org has grown faster then I ever hoped for. We currently have over 250 members, and the site is really starting to blossom into the resource we all need. The message board is starting to grow, and thedetailed submissions, especially in the grant area, have been fantastic.

We have added another area to the message board named “Problems and Solutions” for members to ‘vent’ with other members and lend a helping hand. I have also cleaned out the members section of blank entries, and added information to the top 5 list for each area.

For the site to grow, and to help the VolunteerFD community as a whole I would like to ask each member to submit one detailed response. If everyone can submit just one response, with 250 members, the information gathered will be amazing.

Two areas, bylaws and SOGs, currently do not have any submissions. I’m not sure why, but if there is something I can do to gain submissions in that area, let me know. I have volunteered to scan in any documents you may have in hard copy, or if you have your bylaws/sogs in electronic format you can cut and paste it into the form.

I understand that some departments may be reluctant to put this information on the web, but remember that it is for the good of the community as a whole. While you may have the best (or worst) bylaws in the world, there is something to be learned from the way each department does things. By working together and providing information to each other we can not only grow the site, but help the volunteer community as a whole.

Please let me know what you think of the site and how it can be improved. Also if you have any ideas on how to get more departments involved, I’m all ears.

On a personal note, I currently provide VolunteerFD.org out of my own wallet. I am looking for advertisers to help subsidize the cost of providing this website. So next time you talk to your favorite vendor, remind them that volunteers buy from people that support them and that you’d love if they advertised on VolunteerFD.org. :)

Yours in Service,

Jason Zigmont
