PARK RIDGE, Ill. — A volunteer firefighter who was a new father of triplets died Sunday night after a motorcycle wreck near Schaumburg.
Joshua F. Kuhl, 33, of far northwest Machesney, died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, officials said.
On July 28, Kuhl lost control of his motorcycle while heading south on the Illinois 53 ramp onto I-90, Illinois State Police said.
“It’s a very long ramp,’' said Illinois State Police Tollway District Master Sgt. Susan Ewald.
Kuhl was wearing a helmet but had serious head injuries after he was thrown from his motorcycle. Drugs and alcohol also have been ruled out as a cause of the accident, officials said.
Witnesses reported Kuhl was traveling at a high rate of speed. Officials have not determined what caused the accident.
Since February 2008, Kuhl had been a volunteer firefighter for the North Park Fire Protection District in Machesney Park, a spokeswoman for the fire district said.
Ewald said Kuhl recently became the father of triplets.
The spokeswoman said when she came in Monday morning, flags there were at half-staff to honor Kuhl.
