LAKE VILLAGE, Ind. — A volunteer firefighter in Northwest Indiana has admitted setting two fires, police say.

Mark Christopher Barten, 20, of Lake Village, Ind., has volunteered with the Lake Township Volunteer Fire Department for three years. He’s charged with two felony counts of arson in the two fires last month — one involving a barn, the other an abandoned house. Each was set using gasoline. No one was hurt. Two teenagers also were charged.

The giveaway? A piece of Barten’s mail was found at the scene of one of the fires, a detective said.
