Ind. firefighter dies in crash

Fire apparatus left the road killing 18-year-old Jeremy Tighe

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A firefighter was killed when a fire truck returning from a call partially overturned and struck a utility pole in Southern Indiana Wednesday night.

Jeremy Tighe, 18, of the McCutchanville Fire Department, died on scene, while the driver was not seriously hurt, according to The Evansville Courier & Press.

Firefighter Tighe, who was wearing a seat belt, was due to turn 19 Thursday.

He had been on the department for 18 months, according to the report.

The sheriff’s department said the cause of the wreck is unknown. The single-vehicle crash occurred a half mile from the fire station.
