BEDFORD, Ky. — A community is in shock after the unexpected death of one of a well-known firefighter and EMT.People who knew Mark Rexroat, 43, of Bedford, well said ‘he was one heck of a guy’. According to people that knew him, Rexroat was a type of person who could light up a room with his smile. One of the supervisors said Rexroat ‘was a genuinely good guy.’

Feelings are hard to pinpoint for Jeffery Wright, Chief of Bedford Volunteer Fire and Rescue. “I’m just kind of mixed emotions. I’m angry one minute and remembering the past the next,” Wright said. While remembering the past working with Rexroat he explained, “Mark was a charming guy. He always liked to see people laugh. He liked to have a good time.”

KSP said Rexroat was riding his motorcycle east on Highway 42 Friday evening. Perry Cook, 49, also of Bedford, was driving in the other direction in a truck. Cook tried to turn left onto Haven Road police said Cook turned into Rexroat’s path. The truck hit Rexroat and he was thrown from the motorcycle. Rexroat was flown to University of Louisville hospital where he later died. Cook was not injured in the crash. Police said Rexroat was wearing a helmet.
