ONTARIO, Canada — John Boss dreamed of being a firefighter.

With help from the fire departments in Brock, Scugog and Ramara townships Wednesday, it came true. For the day, the 48-year-old, who has Down syndrome, was made an honourary volunteer firefighter. “He’s been excited from the moment he woke up,” said Boss’s Durham North Community Living support worker, Donna Scullion.

Scugog Fire Capt. Ryan Edgar sits on Durham North Community Living’s Dreams Gala committee. That’s how he heard about Boss. “I knew I wanted to bring this to life,” said Edgar, who spent the past month organizing Wednesday’s activities.
