ELDORADO, Texas — A volunteer firefighter from Reagan County was airlifted to Shannon Medical Center this afternoon after being injured during a battle against an oil-rig fire north of Ozona and west of Eldorado, said an Ozona Department of Public Safety official.

Dustin Rojas suffered second and third degree burns to his legs and knees, said Danny Hicks, a jailer and dispatcher for Schleicher County. Hicks said the firefighter “stepped back into a puddle of water that was really hot and he was burned.”

No further information was available Thursday night about Rojas or his injuries.

The fire started about 11:45 a.m., officials said, and was extinguished by 5 p.m. Ozona, Schleicher and Reagan county fire departments responded.
