As you may have noticed, there has been a bit of updating and expanding around here at VolunteerFD.org. This was partly due to our unprecedented growth to over 6200 members. That is almost one quarter of the 25,000 Volunteer Fire Departments nationwide!
In addition to having 6200 members, we have over 1300 entries in our members database, providing a great foundation for our resources section. The resources have been updated to eliminate any empty or false entries, and to update the top 5 entries.
The weekly column to has been changed to a weekly review. The weekly review is a look at either a popular message board topic, or members submission. Next week I will be looking at keeping training interesting, and what our members have done to keep their members coming.
If you believe you have a unique or very successful members entry, please email me for consideration for the weekly review. I am also looking for departments that would like to have a department profile done of them. The department profile is a new feature that will proudly display your department and give others an insight into how other departments run. For more information, visit our Profiles Section.
There has been a chat function added to the site. The chat is in ‘beta’ test, but is open to all at http://www.volunteerfd.org/chat/ It is also available under the resources section.All of these new features, on top of the existing website, cost money to run. In order to cover the costs of the site, I have changed the ad layout, and advertising rates. I encourage all members to visit our advertisers, and tell the vendors you buy from that VolunteerFD.org is the place to advertise.
