Thomasville Fire Department lost part of its roof when a line of severe thunderstorms went through the area on Friday.
Robbie Binkley, shift battalion chief with the Thomasville Fire Department, said less than a third of the roof was damaged during the incident and no injuries were reported. He said the sudden burst of wind lasted less than 30 seconds.
“We had a strong wind come through that blew part of the roof off the building,” Binkley said. “It was one quick blast that happened in about 20 seconds and it was all over with.”
Binkley said the damage was minimal and didn’t cause any disruption in service. He said they will begin repairs on the roof as soon as possible.
“It didn’t do any damage to the building, and no one was hurt,” Binkley said. “We had a couple of vehicles with a few dents and a cracked windshield, but nothing else was damaged. We will figure out on Monday how to repair the roof, but it is business as usual.”
According to 911 Emergency Services there were reports of trees and power lines also damaged in the area, but there was no report of a tornado at the time.
