SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A dog named Toby fell off a cliff near Spokane while chasing a ball, Washington firefighters reported.
The 30-pound Shetland sheepdog plunged over the cliff while playing fetch with his owner Thursday, May 11, the Spokane Valley Fire Department said in a news release.
Firefighters spotted the 1-year-old dog on a ledge about 30 feet down from the top of the cliff, the release said.
Photos show Toby landing on a narrow rocky ledge with a steep drop-off.
Rescuers climbed down using ropes, wrapped Toby in a tarp to retrieve him and returned him to his owner, the agency said.
The dog was not injured in the accident, firefighters said.
