Canada firefighter charged in fatal pumper crash

VAUGHAN, Ont. — A firefighter is facing a careless driving charge following a fatal collision between a fire truck and a car just north of Toronto.

The accident occurred while a pumper truck was responding to a call in Vaughan on Feb. 2.

The truck hit a car being driven by a 54-year-old man, who later died in hospital. He is not being identified at the request of his family.

Four firefighters in the pumper truck suffered minor injuries.

Gianmarco Solimena, 30, of Vaughan, has been charged with one count of careless driving, a Highway Traffic Act offence.

He is due in court in Newmarket on March 29.
