Fire dept. to allow businesses to sponsor fire trucks

Mesa Fire Department hopes to earn around $250,000 from the program that will include two decals on each truck

MESA, Ariz. — A fire department will allow businesses to sponsor messages of health and safety on their fire trucks after losing millions in budget cuts.

ABC15 reported that the Mesa Fire Department will now feature two decals on each of their trucks, and hopes to earn around $250,000 after budget cuts resulted in a loss of around $3.7 million.

“Rather than having to cut into our operational side that can impact our 911 response, we like to be able to create revenue streams that will allow us to work on the education side,” Deputy Chief Forrest Smith said. “We’re going to be very particular about who we work with.”

The first decal featured on Engine 203 is sponsored by the Mesa Chamber of Commerce and says, “It’s Everyone’s Business to Stop the Spread of the Flu.”

“It just makes sense for the business community to be engaged,” Chamber of Commerce president Sally Harrison said.

The sponsorship will also include trading cards that feature the apparatus, as well as social media tie-ins. Deputy Chief Smith said the fire department is the first in the country to roll out such a program.
