KITCHENER, Canada — A 73-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a crash that took a fire truck out of commission.

The crash happened on Nov. 11 at the intersection of Cedar and Charles streets.

The woman was travelling west on Charles when she collided with a Kitchener fire truck with its lights and sirens on.

The truck left the road and hit a hydro pole.

The truck, a pumper, sustained about $150,000 damage in the crash.

The extent of that damage is still being assessed and the truck hasn’t been repaired yet, said Kitchener Fire Chief Tim Beckett.

Another truck from the Kitchener fire fleet was brought in as a replacement while the damaged truck waits for the repairs.

On Monday, police said they had charged the driver, a Kitchener woman, with failing to stop at a red light.
