NEW YORK — An out-of-service FDNY truck being transported from a repair shop lit up in flames on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge Wednesday afternoon, the department told the Advance/SILive.com.
The vehicle, which went on fire around 3:10 p.m. approaching the Brooklyn-bound upper level, was not being used for emergency response at the time it went on fire, according to an official from the FDNY’s press office.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, and it was brought under control at 3:59 p.m.
Video posted on Twitter showed the cab of the FDNY apparatus in flames as firefighters worked to douse the blaze.

The FDNY issued an “all-hands” response to the fire, and extensive delays are present on the span as of 4:11 p.m., according to the MTA and the city’s Notify NYC alert system.
As of 3:35 p.m., the MTA said motorists should allow for extra travel time and utilize the lower level. The Staten Island-bound HOV lane was blocked at the approach to the upper level at that time.
It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze.
