EDMOND, Okla. — Radios, flashlights and a map book, all valued between $15,000 and $20,000, were stolen from an Edmond fire truck while it was in Oklahoma City being repaired, an Edmond Fire Department official said Wednesday.
Assistant Chief Tim Wheeler said as a precaution, the four or five handheld radios have been disabled. Batteries on the stolen radios would be dead by now, he said.
Firefighters Wednesday were notifying people in gated neighborhoods in Edmond that their gate codes may have been compromised, Wheeler said.
A report to the Oklahoma City Police Department was made Tuesday when the truck was returned to Edmond and the property was discovered missing. The report was not available Wednesday.
Wheeler said he didn’t have all the details about the incident.
A location of where the theft took place wasn’t available, he said.
The fire truck from Station 2 at 925 E Second St. was taken to the Edmond vehicle maintenance shop Thursday. Wheeler said it couldn’t be fixed there so it was taken to Oklahoma City for repairs.
The theft has not hampered fire service, he said.
“We have backup radios and the truck is back in service,” he said.
