This video shows a rescue operation using an aerial ladder. Although it takes place in a foreign country, the principle applies everywhere. Winter conditions with ice and snow make firefighting a little more challenging.
One area to pay attention to is snow drifts or ice hanging from the edge of a roof. These are dangerous hazards as they can fall and injure personnel on the ground. When on a ladder, it can cause a firefighter to lose his footing or grip and fall.
Be sure to size up the snow drifts and ice hanging from a roof before laddering or working beneath it.
