Water was delayed by about 30 minutes as a result of the incident

GRANTSVILLE, W.Va. — A Grantsville fire truck got stuck as it attempted to make a sharp turn into a drive leading to a burning dwelling, causing a delay of about 30 minutes getting water to the burning structure.

The fire, which spread from a nearby camper, destroyed the residence of Charles and Mandee Richards in Big Springs. The six members of the Richards family lost everything.

Tanker trucks from the Smithville and Harrisville VFD had no way around the stuck Grantsville truck.

They parked along W.Va. 16 and delivered water into the Grantsville pumper. Fire Chief Craig Gherke said his department will make sure the situation doesn’t occur again.
