SALINAS, Calif. — A suspected serial arsonist was arrested for fires in the Jack’s Peak and Carmel Valley areas.
Lance Oliver Scott, 38, was arrested by investigators from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection after prosecutors filed multiple arson charges, authorities said.
During a search of the man’s Monterey County home, investigators allegedly found evidence of marijuana cultivation and marijuana sales, sheriff’s investigators said. Thirty-two pot plants were uprooted.
“I’m relieved to know this suspected serial arsonist is in custody,” Cal Fire unit Chief George Haines said. “Even though the fires Mr. Scott is charged with starting did not cause any significant damage, the Monterey Peninsula always has the potential for large, damaging wildfires.”
