FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno Fire Department crews responded to two possible drowning calls Monday involving children, just days after a 5-year-old boy drowned in the family swimming pool.
About 1 p.m. Monday, fire crews went to a home on the 4500 block of East Simpson Avenue in east central Fresno where firefighters performed CPR on a child who had fallen into a swimming pool.
The child survived, said Ken Shockley, Fresno Fire Department spokesman. The age and gender of the child were not available Monday night.
About 4:30 p.m. Monday, fire crews went to the 5700 block of West El Paso Avenue in northwest Fresno where a child had fallen into a pool and was not breathing, Shockley said.
The child was taken to the hospital, but no further information was available from officials Monday night.
The 5-year-old boy who died Friday was playing outside the family’s home on the 1100 block of East Vassar Avenue in central Fresno when he was noticed missing about 7 p.m. About an hour later, the boy was found in the family’s swimming pool. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
As the weather warms and people begin using their backyard pools again, the danger of drowning increases, Shockley said.
