PLACERVILLE, Calif. — A 24-year-old Placerville firefighter has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Benjamin Cunha was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of setting fire to vegetation, according to a Cal Fire news release. The fires associated with the investigation occurred in the Diamond Springs/El Dorado Fire Protection District’s response area.

In a photo on the fire district’s Web site, Cunha is pictured in uniform among members of fire personnel. His specific position with the fire district is unclear.

On Cunha’s MySpace page, which he last logged on Sunday, Cunha states he is a fireman in El Dorado County and works “at Station 74 in Lotus.” He also lists his occupation as “stunt driver.”

Cal Fire Amador-El Dorado Unit prevention personnel and members of Cal Fire’s arson investigation unit conducted the investigation. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office also is involved in the investigation.
